“Standing alongside the main London-Folkestone Road, two and a half miles from Maidstone,
British Legion Village is much more than a name on the Ordnance Survey map. It symbolises
the three great virtues – faith, hope and charity.
The faith of these pioneers of the British Legion who refused to accept that tuberculosis
meant the end of a man’s useful life; the hope of thousands of ex-service sufferers
from the disease who have passed through the hospital and village to a new life;
and the charity of the British people who, by their generosity on Poppy Day, made
all this possible.”
